Supreme Court warns ‘oversmart’ Samay Raina over remarks in Canada show

adminBy adminMarch 3, 20252 Mins Read

The Supreme Court of India has issued a stern warning to comedian Samay Raina regarding his recent remarks made during a show in Canada, amidst ongoing legal proceedings related to the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy.

During a hearing on petitions filed by YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani concerning allegations of vulgar content on the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show, the Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh, expressed displeasure over Raina’s conduct. Justice Surya Kant remarked that one of the individuals involved had fled to Canada and was making light of the court proceedings, indicating a lack of awareness about the court’s authority. He emphasized that the younger generation often considers themselves overly smart but may not fully comprehend the court’s jurisdiction and powers.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta concurred with the court’s observations, highlighting that Raina had gone abroad and was mocking the legal proceedings. The court’s admonition underscores the judiciary’s intolerance towards actions that undermine its authority.

In light of these developments, the Supreme Court has granted Ranveer Allahbadia permission to continue airing his show, provided he refrains from commenting on matters that are sub judice. This decision came after the court noted that one of the accused had made remarks about the ongoing court proceedings during a show abroad.

The ‘India’s Got Latent’ show has been at the center of controversy due to allegations of vulgar content. The court’s recent directives and warnings aim to ensure that individuals involved in the case respect the judicial process and refrain from actions that could be perceived as contemptuous or undermining the court’s authority.

These events highlight the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the sanctity of legal proceedings and serve as a caution to public figures about the potential repercussions of making light of or disrespecting the judicial process
